Cleaner Production Center of Laos
The Cleaner Production Center Lao PDR is an initiative of United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) under its global Cleaner Production promotion movement. The project is funded by the Swiss Government through the State Secretariat for Economic Affair (SECO) and hosted by the Ministry of Industry and Commerce.
GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT CPC-L
The Cleaner Production Center of Laos (CPC-L) was established by the Ministry of Industry and Commerce in closed cooperation and supported by the “United Nation for Industrial Development Organisation or UNIDO” in mid 2007.
CPC-L is a member of UNIDO and UNEP Global Network on Global Network of Cleaner Production Centers and Resource Efficiency and Cleaner Production (RECP) Global Network.
The main goal and objective is to contribute in poverty reduction and promote the country environmental sustainability in the service and industrial sectors through increasing productivity, more efficient and utilization of resources and reducing impacts on environment and workers health and safety. It also aims to increase adoption of Resource Efficiency and Cleaner Production (RECP) Concepts and practices in targeted export-oriented manufacturing and service sectors in the country.
About us
The Cleaner Production Center Lao PDR is an initiative of United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) under its global Cleaner Production promotion movement. The project is funded by the Swiss Government through the State Secretariat for Economic Affair (SECO) and hosted by the Ministry of Industry and Commerce.
The aim of the center is to raise the awareness of Lao industries and actively promote cleaner production issues through various mechanisms with inclusion of conduction of cleaner production demonstration project in representative industries, documenting the benefits and experiences of the project and publicizing the results for creating multiplier effect.
Cleaner production activities have been started in Lao PDR in 2004 with the full support of the Ministry of Industry and Commerce (former Industry and Handicrafts Ministry), and with the support from DANIDA in 2001 and 2002 by providing some basic training for a small team of its personnel in cleaner production concepts.
